Week 4: Wrapping it Up!!

My unit did not go the way I planned it to be but I think it was a success. With the help of my AT and Alison I managed to incorporate different subjects, such as drama and art into Canadian history. I had students create tableau presentations for significant groups of people living in New France and I taught students to fold origami animals that early explorers and settlers would see when they arrived in Canada to decorate the classroom with. Students also managed to complete their newspaper article (culminating actively) for me to mark this week.

Overall, I had a wonderful practicum and after being with two grade 7 classes with a majority of them being boys, my classroom management skills has definitely gone up to the next level. I also feel a lot more comfortable teaching subjects I have no/little experience in.

  1. Hi Amy -

It's funny that no matter how much we plan for our units, they never go the way we think they will.

And I could really relate to your experience about putting your classroom management skills to the test by teaching two grade seven classes that consist mainly of boys. That was exactly my experience in my first practicum!

    See you in class, soon!

    Janice.

  3. Amy those origami decorations look so awesome! The students must have felt really good coming in everyday to see their artwork (origami) up on the ceiling. That such a brilliant way to make the classroom prettier.

Having a class with a majority of boys, that too in grade 7, must be challenging. Especially for people like us who take a little more time to get the class' attention. But I'm glad this was a great experience for you to strengthen your classroom management skills.

Glad to hear that you had a wonderful experience!
